BYD has just launched its ultra-large roll-on/roll-off carrier, BYD Shenzhen, with a capacity of around 9,200 vehicles per voyage. Built by China Merchants’ shipyard and delivered in April 2025, this ship is part of BYD’s strategy to take control of its own shipping pipeline; not just rely on third-party transport.

On its maiden voyage, the vessel departed with over 7,000 new energy vehicles, heading for Brazil. It features LNG dual-fuel propulsion, energy-saving hull treatments, and other eco features to minimize carbon footprint.

What sets this apart: because it’s a RoRo design, unloading is more efficient and more directly controlled by BYD. While it may not always be as fast as a car-park ramp drive-off in every port, the infrastructural and operational move toward owning the carrier fleet is revolutionary.

This is more than just shipping cars; it’s about speed, predictability, and leveraging logistics as a competitive advantage in global EV markets.

比亚迪近日正式推出其超大型滚装船——比亚迪深圳号,单航次可运载约 9,200 辆汽车。该船由招商工业建造,并于 2025 年 4 月交付。这艘巨轮标志着比亚迪开始掌控自身的运输渠道,而不仅仅依赖第三方航运公司。

在首航中,这艘船装载了 7,000 多辆新能源汽车,驶向巴西。它采用 LNG 双燃料动力系统,并配备节能船体涂层等环保技术,以尽量减少碳足迹。
