From the palate to the marketplace. 🇮🇹🍷🌏 #174
A wonderful afternoon at the Borsa Vini Italian Wine Masterclass, organised by the ITA – Italian Trade Agency.
It was a pleasure to be in the company of sommeliers and industry professionals as we refreshed—and challenged—our palates across a range of Italian wines, from rosé through to reds and beyond, thoughtfully paired with different foods.

What made the afternoon particularly interesting, however, was not just what was in the glass.
Around the table were guests and conversations spanning Singapore, the Philippines, Japan, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Rome and beyond. Inevitably, the discussion moved from wine to the realities of the F&B business.
Singapore is a fascinating melting pot, but that also makes it a demanding market. Consumer palates are evolving quickly. Western and Eastern influences increasingly intersect, while restaurants, importers and distributors must constantly decide whether to follow established tastes—or anticipate what consumers will want next.
That conversation resonates strongly with what we are building at Thousand Ships Trading (TST).
Together with Richie Jimena, Founding Capabilities Partner for Thousand Ships’ Philippines Market Entry, specialising in immigration and business consultancy, we shared how TST is opening and connecting new distribution channels across markets for carefully selected products—from fine wines and food ingredients to construction materials and other quality goods.
But opening a channel is not enough.
We want to build an ecosystem where producers, distributors, market-entry partners, businesses and consumers create value for one another across borders.
And that means being selective.
We don’t need everything.
We want the right products, the right partners and the right markets—because we only want the best for the people and businesses within our alliance ecosystem.
So perhaps the question after an afternoon of fine Italian wine is a fitting one:
Are you fine with us—and with being part of a larger, mutually beneficial ecosystem?
I’d love to hear from producers, distributors, F&B professionals and market builders.
What do you think will define the next generation of cross-border food, wine and lifestyle trade in Asia?
