#Children, #technology and civil #unrest. The future lies in them and in our hands too. What we do has repercussions down into the future. Glad to be invited to a birthday party for my son’s classmate.
Both my wife and I had a great time chatting and understanding how an Indonesian Chinese couple have made Singapore home while their parents are still in Indonesia.
We are so similar in having our children attending school together yet contrasting in certain ways. The lengths that parents go to provide for their children and manage familial relationships across two countries and cities.
We were also in the company of Pastor Peter and Alina who shared their passion for the people around them and caring for the birthday boy alongside his family.
It’s a journey to be part of Singapore and the challenges that will be presented to us and our children.
Singapore’s food sufficiency was a topic of discussion as we ponder about the geopolitical situations and the break in supply chain in the wake of the pandemic. We discussed technology’s potential impact with upheavals like civil war and unrest should certain technologies be brought to fruition.
Can you guess what these technologies are? One example is Autonomous Vehicles (AVs), where a huge segment of the population may easily be put out of jobs for certain countries. Urban dwellers may not realise the impact and the repercussions down the road when we place technology before people.
#Artificialintelligence and relevant technologies are here to augment humans. Yet, it’s a fine line to run tangent from creating an ideal world to another world with unrest should we not structure the frameworks to regulate technologies properly.
In the event we embrace such technologies for mass deployment then we better have the safeguards in place to take care of those who are displaced by them.
We care for our next generation, so let’s do the right things to forge this inclusive society forward where everyone from all ethnicities, cultures and beliefs comes together for the betterment of all.
I am Mar Vin Foo πΏπͺ.
Thank you for simulating the future of two parallel worlds to us, where they are determined by our actions of today.
P.S: I like technologies but let’s think and plan ahead. Working fast and working in a fluster are two completely different things. Cheers π₯
