#43 HR Learning Journey Preview with Singapore Polytechnic – Building Good Companies – Planet

🌱 How many employees are truly looking to work for environmentally sustainable companies?

🌱 Are we doing enough to equip our workforce with sustainability skills?

🌱 Why should SMEs care about Scope 3 emissions?

These were just some of the powerful questions that stirred our minds at the exclusive HR Learning Journey (HRLJ) preview hosted by Singapore Polytechnic yesterday.

While previous HRLJ chapters have centered around People and Profit, this final leg focused deeply on the Planet—the third and equally vital “P” in ESG.

It was refreshing yet sobering as we tackled the often-overlooked elephant in the room—carbon emissions and sustainability reporting. Many in the room admitted uncertainty about where to begin, and that vulnerability became the perfect catalyst for dialogue, learning, and collective growth.

🌍 Planet isn’t an afterthought—it’s an imperative.

Over coffee, the conversations turned personal—about national service and our children. A few participants shared about the puzzling 80-20 ethnicity mix—a majority group dominating entire formations, with minority races forming a mere fraction. Another attendee remarked how an entire platoon or company seemed to be made up of elite junior college graduates.

Strange, yet strangely familiar stories in Singapore. Is this sustainable? Perhaps only our new generation of leaders will have the courage and clarity to address such deeply embedded patterns.

Kudos to the SP Business Innovation Centre for delivering a compelling and deeply engaging session. The full experience will be formally launched at the SP HR Symposium on 25 July 2025—an event not to be missed by HR and business leaders serious about ESG.

I extend my sincere gratitude to:

👉 Yen Yen Tan

👉 Li Juen Yeo

👉 Emma Meyer

👉 David Tan (陳國成)

for graciously including me as the representative of the Chairperson of iMerv, in my capacity as Ombudsman appointment holder for the family.

Let’s keep the momentum going—from awareness to action. 🌱💼🌍
